Showcasing Australian International School artistic talent using social media

Showcasing Australian International School artistic talent using social media

Thursday 28 November 2013

The Australian High Commission is thrilled to be showcasing the work of Australian International School student Lauren Hofer on the 'Australia in Singapore' Facebook page.

Lauren, who is entering year 12 at the AIS in 2014, created a beautiful photograph last year as part of a photographic and digital media unit the school does with year 10 students. The image is of Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, and is being showcased as the 'cover image' on https://www.facebook.com/AustraliaInSingapore - an online community for those interested in what's going on in Singapore with Australian links.

The study undertaken by Lauren is called The Light Fantastic and students explore the possibilities of photography when the camera is taken off the auto metering setting. This photograph uses a particular combination of minimum 3 images in a range of exposures to produce a high dynamic range (HDR) photograph.

Third-party software called Photomatix merges the images to produce strong tonal ranges and saturated colours. The range of tones reflect a more realistic range of visual perception we see in our day to day lives which overcomes the limitations that digital photography has in high scene luminance range photographs.

Thank you to Lauren for allowing us to showcase your work, and well done! Keep an eye out for more brilliant Australian International School student work showcased at https://www.facebook.com/AustraliaInSingapore.
