MEDIA ALERT - Election 2010

Australians in Singapore vote in
Australian Election

The Australian High Commission in Singapore is expecting around 4,000 Australians to vote in Singapore for the Australian Federal Election.

The Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Mr Doug Chester, says, “We have seen a steady stream of Australians come into the Australian High Commission to vote since polling began last week. Almost 1,000 Australians have cast their ballot and we expect several thousand more by the end of polling on 21 August 2010”

“At any one time, there are approximately 30,000 Australians in Singapore, of whom 23,000 live and work here. With the Youth Olympic Games taking place at the moment, there is an increased number of Australian visitors in Singapore,” says Mr Chester.

The Australian High Commission in Singapore is the third largest overseas polling station outside of Australia, behind London and Hong Kong.

Australian voters living, working or holidaying in Singapore can vote in person at the Australian High Commission, 25 Napier Road, Singapore 258507. Votes can be cast between 9am and 4pm on 16-20 August (inclusive) and on Polling Day from 10am to 6pm on 21 August 2010.
