Australia seems to be the most popular destination for Singaporeans thinking of furthering their studies overseas.

Consultancy agencies, which help students find a place in overseas institutions, said that on average, they assist more than 100 students each year.

Most of the study abroad agencies that operate in Singapore work with educational institutions from the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.

They told Channel NewsAsia that while the weak British pound (1 GBP = S$2.10) means more students are applying to study in the United Kingdom, Australia remains by far the most popular destination, with more than 80 per cent of students applying for universities Down Under.
