Australia’s Minister for Trade presents SingTel with business award

SingTel has been awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Bank of Australia Business Alliance Award 2009 for its significant commitment to Australian trade and investment.

The award has been presented by Australia’s Minister for Trade, The Hon. Simon Crean MP, at the annual AustCham Business Awards attended by more than 150 Australian and Singaporean business, community and government leaders, at Conrad Centennial Singapore earlier today.

SingTel is the parent company of Optus, an Australian leader in integrated telecommunications, delivering cutting-edge communications, information technology and entertainment services. Optus is an iconic organisation that is at the pinnacle of brand recognition in Australia. Close to a decade after its launch, Optus became SingTel Optus following a 100% takeover by Asia’s largest telecommunications group.

With a market capitalisation of S$46.8 billion dollars and operations in more than 20 countries, SingTel continues to be the leading telecommunications group in the region. With more than $8 billion a year in sales, Optus contributes approximately 60% of SingTel’s revenue and has experienced continued growth over the past three years despite a challenging economic climate.

SingTel Optus now serves one in three Australians. Since 2000, it has invested, on average more than S$1.1 billion annually in new network infrastructure and technology.

Previous recipients of the Business Alliance Award include Singapore Power (2008), ComfortDelgro (2007), CapitaLand (2006) and Singapore Airlines (2005).

AustCham was officially formed in 1981 as the Singapore Australia Business Council. The organisation boasts more than 600 individual and corporate members – comprising Australian, Singaporean and other global citizens.
