OUTSTANDING SINGAPOREANS RECEIVE AUSTRALIAN SCHOLARSHIPS

Two outstanding Singaporeans have received the prestigious Endeavour Postgraduate Award from the Australian Government to pursue studies in Australia. They were honoured in a presentation ceremony hosted by the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, HE Mr Doug Chester.

The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards is an initiative by the Australian Government to deepen education, research and professional links between Australia and the international community. The recipients are as follows:

  • Mr Fam Shun Deng, who will undertake a PhD by research on Biodiversity and Conservation, with a focus on South East Asia. (Australia National University)

  • Dr Soon Wan Ting, who will study the impact of new technology on social movements in the community in the context of civil society (Asian Research Centre, Murdoch University)

  •  

Mr Fam received the Prime Minister's Australia Asia Endeavour Postgraduate Award, which is given to the top 20 incoming Endeavour Postgraduate Awards recipients. The Award provides full financial support for an international student up to A$263,500 for a maximum of four years to undertake a postgraduate qualification at PhD level by research in any field of study in Australia.

Dr Soon was awarded the Endeavour Research Fellowship, which provides financial support of up to A$23,500 for postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from participating countries to undertake short-term research (between 4-6 months), in any field of study, in Australia.
